FaltSilo GmbH was founded in 1974 when the aim was to develop economic areas of application and uses for the fiber material Trevira® – high-strength developed by the former Farbwerke Höchst.

This flexible building material, also known as a fully flexible material, consists of a carrier fabric coated with plastics of various types. Depending on the type of requirement, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or polyurethane (PU) is used. The fabric gives this composite material its high strength with low elongation, very good continuous load behavior, very good tear resistance with high dimensional stability. The coating has the task of making the flexible material airtight and watertight, flame retardant according to DIN 4102, abrasion resistant and resistant to heat and cold.

Trevira® high-strength has a specific strength of approx. 1000 N/mm² and is thus of the same order of magnitude as quenched and tempered steel. Structural steel, by comparison, has a minimum tensile strength of 550 N/mm², although its weight is six times higher.

FaltSilo GmbH recognized that the high tensile strength in the construction of large containers, for example silos with a large volume and low dead weight, combined with the emptying advantages of flexible containers, represents a major process engineering advantage, which ultimately offers economic benefits for customers.

Accordingly, for more than 45 years, Faltsilo GmbH has been engaged in the development, manufacture and sale of flexible containers made of coated fabrics that are suitable for receiving, storing and discharging liquid, dusty or granular materials. The containers are used as silos in plants of the food, pharmaceutical and chemical industries. In the event of a disaster, folding silo containers secure the water supply; in the event of environmental or chemical accidents and in the event of fire disasters, the containers help to minimize the damage – also in terms of the environment – by absorbing harmful liquids and (contaminated) extinguishing water.

For the industry, the benefits of the folding silo products can be seen not only in the economic advantages but also in the procedural advantages during filling and discharge, and for the fire department and disaster control in the compact storage and easy transport.
